No one writes about World War II like Némirovsky, who lived through it and perished in Auschwitz. I liked AOWG better because it's more hopeful, and differs from SF in scope. At once both smaller in scale (focusing on two families) and grander (covering both WWI and WWII), it reminds us of the things worth fighting for: A cup of coffee and freshly sliced bread in the morning.
