What is the most beautiful national anthem?

Apart from the Philippines' "Lupang Hinirang," of course? (Hehe, fervent patriot here. OF COURSE I'm biased!)

I find Israel's and Hungary's sooooo beautiful! Listening to these songs brought tears to my eyes.

Israel's HATIKVA:

Here's the Hungarian anthem:

What other anthems strike your heart? :)

  1. wow, those are beautiful! i especially like israel's anthem! hmm, what anthems strike my heart? i don't know, i've never actually listened to the anthems of other countries. but i'd probably say that's france's anthem is special to me, due to the fact that it has a prominent role in the film Casablanca! :D

  2. I don't know if I'd consider it the most beautiful national anthem, but I kind of like Finlandia and I think Hungary... the one that used the melody of a string quartet by Haydn? Those two are nice. :) But this is interesting. I never thought of listening to the national anthems of other countries!

  3. @Mika: La Marsellaise is actually considered by many people as one of the most beautiful anthems in the world... but speaking for myself, the music doesn't "resonate" within me hahahaha.

@Bernice: Ooooh sayang Finlandia isn't the national anthem of Finland! And the one composed by Haydn is now the German national anthem :) (originally composed for the Austrian/ Austria-Hungary monarchy)

Haha, hang-over from our school's United Nations Day! I just had a thought... wouldn't it be interesting to sing national anthems from around the world in World Music classes?

  4. I agree both are very beautiful. I prefer Hungary's a bit more. It really goes through you, especially on the high notes. Thank you!
